Even though globalization affects the world’s economies in a very positive way, its negative side should not be forgotten. Discuss.

Article 1

Globalization is such a commonly used term in the twentieth century. It simply means that the world has become integrated economically, socially, politically and culturally through the advances of technology, transportation and communication. It is undeniable that globalization has resulted in both positive and negative effects which must be addressed accordingly.

To begin with, globalization has contributed to the world’s economies in many beneficial ways. The advances in science and technology have allowed businesses to easily cross over territorial boundary lines. Consequently, companies tend to become more productive and competitive thereby raising the quality of goods, services and the world’s living standard.

Secondly, several companies from the more developed countries have already ventured to establish foreign operations or branches to take advantage of the low cost of labour in the poorer countries. This kind of business activity will provide more influx of cash or investment funds into the less developed countries.

However, one cannot deny the negative effects which have derived from globalization. One crucial social aspect is the risk and danger of epidemic diseases which can easily be spread as the transportation becomes easier and faster in today’s advanced society. This is evidenced in the recent birds flu disease which has infected most Asian countries over a short period of time.

As large corporations invest or take over many offshore businesses, a modern form of colonization will also evolve which may pose certain power pressure on the local governments of the less developed countries. Unemployment rates in the more developed regions such as Europe may also escalate as corporations choose to outsource to the cheaper work force from Asian countries.

In conclusion. I like to reiterate that globalization is inevitable and we must urge individuals, companies and governments to use a more balanced approach by taking the appropriate steps to deal with matters relating to the financial or economical gains verses the social, political or ecological concerns of the world.

Article 2

Process of evolution has transformed this planet into a global village.Development of information technology and means of transportation has made the concept of distance irrelevant. But since every coin has two sides, so despite its immense effect on world economics ,globalization also have a darker side though its often the brighter side which is taken into consideration .
Globalization has lead to a lot of adverse effects .To start with, firstly , though increase in trade brought by globalization has greatly promoted business ,however it has also accelerated the transport of drugs and weapons all over the world .In addition to that, diseases once peculiar to a particular region can now be seen every where .Moreover ,news media has not only provided us with information but has developed a capacity to control and influence our thinking.Internet, television and mobiles have diverted the attention of our young generation from studies to entertainment and glamour . Globalization has created a competition among countries which has led to the use of illegal methods to win this race of superiority .Much research has been done on this topic and substantial data has shown that means of globalization like cars and airplanes etc have resulted in increased number of accidents compared to previous era .
Henceforth, concluding that globalization has many disadvantages which must be remembered and taken care of,so that we would be able to enjoy this metamorphoses without any suffering .

Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

Article 1

Human nature is designed in a way that it undergoes a number of variations during their whole life cycle. So majority of people tend to design their surrounding accordingly in order to adjust with those variations. Some people enjoy this process, others however find it a bit difficult to follow hence they end up sticking to the same routine.
Back in time, people used to be very satisfied with what they have. Their contented and relaxed nature could explain why they took hundreds and hundreds of years to change the ways of life. On the other hand modern man is restless and curious and he is always looking for something new let it be daily activities: cooking, wearing some new clothes, watching TV, handling minor problems; housing; travelling; or academic researching. That diverse and curious nature have made luxury, fashion, leisure activities and technological development possible.
At different stages of life people tend to react differently. For instance, old people usually avoid to change anything in their vicinity or related to themselves, while teenagers always wish for something new every day. Intriguingly, short-term changes: weekends and holidays are usually enjoyed by most of the people. Long-term, however, is the one difficult to cope with as seen in case of immigration. Some people simply drop off the idea and return to their homes without any consideration.
Overall, in my opinion, change adds colour to the life. Sticking to the same routine loses its charm, a change gives a health start in that case. Furthermore, it gives an opportunity to the brain to think over the past and plan better for the future..

Article 2

Life is not bed of roses , we all know very well. Happiness and sadness goes side by side . It order to cope the situation we have to undergo process of change .
I strongly believe that one should accept changes because it is the law of nature . All of us have under gone process of changes from birth till present both physically and psychologically. If we will not adopt the changes we will fail to bear the hardships n challenges of life. Even if we will stick on with same routine no doubt that will get bore.
For instance, a man who gets early in morning ,goes to his job , remains busy in hectic activities whole , returns back to home at night and goes to sleep, has no exercise or outing or any other activity beside the daily matters , he will definitely become sick with in days or a psychological patient with the passage of time. We can teach this lesson from nature as well, daylight gets change with moonlight or darkness, seasons change and a human being changes with age even though he may not change his routine.
On the other side of discussion one might say that it is difficult to adopt change because customs and festivals do not change so a nation should also go with same activities but sooner or later a nation has also need to change if want to stand as a powerful one.
In conclusion , I tend to believe that there should be no hesitation for change because it is always first step towards new ideas and finally towards progress.

When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion" Write at least 250 words in 40 minutes

Article 1

Development of technology has a humongous effect on the ways of life in any country. Sometimes technology supports and magnifies the traditional skills, while in other cases it totally replaces those skills. However, some communities deliberately preserve some of its traditions to keep its culture alive.

Technology, to some extent, has changed the way of teaching and learning in education sector. It has made virtual learning possible and students can learn online whilst staying at home. However, it cannot replace the teacher completely because physical presence of teacher is very important in terms of solving problems and learning discipline. Interestingly technology, in the form of multimedia or transparency projectors, aids teacher to teach more effectively. Therefore the role of technology is very supportive in the field of teaching and learning.
There are certain skills totally taken up by new fast inventions. Farming has dramatically changed after the invention of machinery capable of cultivating and harvesting crops. A similar trend can be observed in the field of construction. Owing to technology many countries: China, Dubai and USA have built marvellous sky scrapers which is an unbelievable dream for an ancient man. In these cases keeping the traditional skills in practice seems unnecessary.
For some people keeping their traditions alive carries a special meaning to them. People in certain countries, for instance, still like to buy hand-made items: sweater, shoes, hats and pots. These items are considered very special as they represent the old traditions of that community.
Overall, the effect of technology on traditional ways of life varies from one domain of life to another. Certain skills are needed to be replaced by inventions, while others could be supported in a productive way.

Article 2

Technology in this era has produced a drastic change in the lifestyle of a common man.Not only it has created loads of new opportunities for skilled professionals but it has also made our lives a lot easier.
Traditional skills and ways of life has its own charm and beauty but as metamorphosis produces changes, time on its course brings changes which should be accepted and adapted wholeheartedly.
Stress and busy schedule in life has compelled us to go to modern ways and new technology.
For example, people used to crush spices, herbs, medicines and condiments on mortar and pestle and it used to take days. Its a matter of seconds now with the invention of blender and mixer machines.Handicapped people used to walk on crutches but now electronic wheel chairs are available. The better the technology, the lesser the hassle.Baking and cooking used to consume so much time in burning wood, mixing n grinding stuff which has now lessened to a few hours due to stoves and electronic ovens.
People used to ride on horses and caravans and took weeks to go from one place or country to another. This dilemma was resolved by the invention of cars and now there are bullet trains which have revolutionized journey of hours into minutes. There are innumerable reasons in which we can see that technology has made our lives easier and we should favour and adapt to make our lives comfortable and easier.

Article 3

I am in consummate accord with this statement . Progress of any country depends on its technology and all developed countries have modern technology so we have a strong reason to believe.

It is the modern technology of a country that makes it powerful. A nation can compete with others on the behalf of its technology , because it has played a valueable role in making it strong. It is the technology that has made our lives very easy, we can travel and communicate very quickly that was a major problem in the past. We can reach from one country to another just in hours and it was just a dream before. Other devices that r products of technology i.e mobile phones, internet , means of transportation and even household machinery have made our lives so easy . By and large now we can't even think to live a luxurious life without the use of advanced technology. For example, now if we want to travel abroad we can book our ticket online from home or workplace, but just few eras back you can't think of it, you had to take off from job and then you were able to collect information regarding traveling and ticket all that.
On the other hand many commentators are of the view that customs n traditional values are identity of a nation, yes true but in this way you can just keep your values alive not even think to run in the race of progress with other nations that are following up to date modes of technology. Because there is huge difference between a letter and email .
On balance , I tend to believe that if we want to progress we have to adopt modern ways of technology.

Article 4

In today's world technology is a necessity without which we will fall behind other nations. The development of new technologies has revolutionized the whole world.
Technology has helped humans in all aspects of living from communication to transportation,to food production housing and recreation. Although technology has helped mankind tremendously through ages, yet it may be the cause of slow death of the old traditions and cultures.
For example the threaters and jatras have been replaced by modern cinemas, puppet shows have been replaced by animation movies etc. Another of the negative side effects is that small cottage industries and local cultures tends to die out due to massive evolution of technologies and industries However, the old methods of expressing creativity might die but human creativity itself will never die.hence creativity will be expressed in different ways through modern technology.
As the age proceeds and the world gross larger its important to make room for the new development which has a benefit on larger scale.
When technology grows it helps in the simultaneous growth of the industries, helps in increasing productivity and thus meeting the demands of the huge population of today's world. According to me humans will always try to keep their cultures intact as it is associated with their identities. Since the advantages of technology outnumbers those of the traditional methods my personal sentiments are on par with the idea that it is pointless to hold on the traditional methods in this new era of evolving technology.

Article 5

Technology has paved the way to the horizons of new developments. Such developments have produced an immense influence in our daily lives. Besides, these have also taken over various traditional skills that once considered to be a symbol of a certain country.
I am of the opinion that almost all technological advancements are in the best interest of people for various reasons.

For instance shopping is deemed to be an essential and the most entertaining part of a woman’s life. But sometimes hectic schedule and responsibilities towards household chores and children have all made it a difficult task. On-line shopping has solved the problem and it has proved to be less time consuming and cost effective as well. This is just an example out of many that clearly demonstrates the wonders of technology.
Furthermore, implementation of technological advancements has changed the way of delivering education altogether. Lectures are prepared on multimedia that not only aid teacher to accomplish his job but also give better understanding to students. In addition, those who study at home can find a Range of on-line books and lectures and hence enjoy the fruit of technology.
Nevertheless it does not mask the charm and importance of traditional ways in many countries. Such as handicrafts are quite popular in northern areas of Pakistan. People visiting from across the country and from different parts of the world show interest in hand made clothes, scarves, shoes etc and buy them for their loved ones.
In conclusion, whether technology is a blessing or curse sparks a debate but I firmly believe that it has certainly changed our lives and way of thinking.

Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree? "Write at least 250 words in 40 minutes.

Article 1

Students usually start developing interest for a particular subject during the early years of learning and most of the times want to pursue that subject as a career. If the universities put a restriction that the maximum number of female or male students cannot exceed a certain limit, the surplus students have to study some other subjects they are not interested in. The students will lose interest in studies and ultimately their career.

Every person has unique characteristics and abilities. For example, some are born with good leadership qualities, while others with management. Moreover, for some mathematics could be the favourite subject, for others it could be the most difficult one. Similarly owing to kind nature of females, they usually choose health care related jobs whilst males strive for engineering. According to given argument if university put gender restriction on nursing or engineering or any other field, the students will be forced to choose a totally different subject which could lead to a complete disaster.
The role of a university is to support a person in order to make one’s dream true. So universities should not put a barrier that this subject can enrol 50% students of one gender especially when admissions are carried out on merit basis. Hence, for instance in engineering, there is more likely chance of enrolling female students with less potential and interest instead of bright male students. Additionally it snatches the right of bright male students. Whilst in a country like the UK where everyone has the right to live a life of one’s own choice, it will definitely be unfair.
Overall all the above examples do not support the given argument. Therefore universities should solely look for bright, hard working, motivated students irrespective of gender.

Article 2

Education has always been that treasure which was searched from centuries to gain and attain the higher powers. It has not only led to development but also made this world a global village. For education, universities play a cardinal role as the professions are decided here.futures are made..
It has been a fashion of old times that girls opt for conventional professions whereas guys choose whatever they feel like going for and which makes them the bread earners of the family.
Usually in professional institutions ,it has been seen that men always are more in number than women. It is a fair thing as men have to become heads of their families so they need to gain and attain the maximum professional excellence that they can get. Having said that,I am not at all endorsing that women should not get professional education but in my opinion, keeping equal number of men and women in universities is not fair.
Its an era of modern-age where there is equality in men and women but its a common practice for women to leave their professional careers after marriage, child birth and then if they are unable to manage between kids, maintaining homely environment and job but men however are not much vulnerable and the better the education, better the job and better the lifestyle. Many times,it was seen that women got jobs at high posts and then left them on trivial matters which hindered the success and promotion of their fellow men colleagues. In another example, women mostly tend to go the professions where they feel independent, secure yet open to work as much as they can and as comfortable as they can get like gynaecology, fine arts, cooking, baking and cloth designing and running boutiques..whereas men opt for army, engineering, police and other technical fields where their professional skills will flourish yet it is also seen that women are now going to unconventional fields too but they too are like grains.
It would be unfair and unjustified to put an equal number of women and men in all universities. This will not only block the developmental process but also will produce a lethal imbalance which will cause wastage of resources and man power. I am strongly against the idea of keeping an equal number of women and men in professional universities.

Happiness is considered very important in life. Why is it difficult to define? What factors are important in achieving happiness? "Write at least 250 words and spend 40 minutes on this task

Article 1

Happiness is a key to a satisfactory and healthy life, as it gives the real meaning to the life. If we exclude happiness, life would be colourless. However, it is very challenging to define the exact meaning of happiness. There are a number of factors which play a key role in achieving it.

Happiness is a corner stone of human life, as it affects humans not only emotionally but physically. According to research, for instance, people with mental illness are more likely to think in a negative way, so they tend to live 20% shorter life than those without any mental problem. Similarly, Happiness makes a person productive and ultimately the whole country. As it is clearly seen in developing countries, people are redundant and less productive.
To define happiness is a great challenge, because it means differently to different people. Optimistic people draw happiness from everything, whilst pessimistic are unable to do so. Similarly some people set the bar so high for them that it is nearly impossible to achieve happiness from completing ordinary task. Additionally, some people think that spiritual achievements are the ultimate happiness, while some feel happy to make others happy.
A list of factors affects the achievement of it: environmental, personal and social. Intriguingly, a nice weather makes people joyous and smiley. To others personal achievement, academic or professional, is the reason to celebrate life. In addition friends and family also have an influence to some extent in contributing the happiness to one’s life.
In conclusion, happiness means different to everybody because it depends on several factors which define it. Moreover, it is one of the necessary tools to the healthy life.

Article 2

Life is an amalgam of different feelings like happiness, sorrow, love, anger, hatred and so on and so forth.. every person has experienced almost every feeling at different times of their lives. But happiness is the feeling everyone is looking for all the time. just like a soul is to a body happiness is to life.

To define happiness is difficult as it is an abstract term. The dictionary may define it as a sense of joy or being delighted etc. it is also difficult to define because you cannot quantify it. And the most imp reason is that every person has its own definition of happiness. For some happiness means having a lot of money, for others it may be getting good grades or a desired profession or some particular job and still others would consider happiness to have a quality time with your family. So one may find it hard to define happiness yet it is the most frequent word used in conversation as everyone is running after what they think would make them happy.
The factors that determine happiness changes at different ages of life starting from birth, for a baby happiness is being in his mother’s lap and being kissed and licked by his mother, for a child of 4,5 years happiness is playing with his toys cars or guns for boys and barbie dolls and their houses means the world to them, as the age increases one may find happiness in getting good grades or having good clothes than other and still older would think money and happiness to be synonyms.
In short happiness may mean different to different individuals but it is the most essential part of life for everyone.

Article 3

God has created man in a very unique fashion. He made him strong physically to bear hardships and equally made him vulnerable to emotions be it joy, love, sorrow , anger etc.  of all the emotions, happiness is the only sentiment that gives positive drive to our lives.

It is indeed very hard to exactly define the happiness because it is beyond everything that can be quantified. But the moments of happiness one experiences, can vary in length. For some individuals , happiness lasts forever and for others it is ephemeral. Whatever the case may be, people are after the every reason to be happy. Because of the fact that priorities have changed since we have started our journey towards materialism. However, this approach has not changed the way of finding happiness.
Having said that, there are factors which contribute towards achieving happiness. For instance , for a nation ,happiness lies when they are free to practice religion ,have access to basic necessities of life ,cultural festivals etc. in the same way, for an individual to attain the pinnacle of happiness, mental and physical well-being are the vital factors. Although it is up to an individual how and where he finds happiness.
For example , a baby becomes happy when he sees mother , for a toddler happiness is all about playing with toys. Teenagers find happiness under the notion of “thou shalt do,thou wilt” and so on. Still there are some unfortunate fellows for whom happiness is a mirage. They remain flummoxed and perplexed throughout their lives as they have set the bar at a higher level.
In conclusion, it is the fact that one can never be happy if he looks for happiness, it lies within.

Article 4

happiness is the most important aspect of life for which all of us are striving .It is very difficult to define as happiness is not simply a word but a feeling, and emotions can never be expressed in the form of words.Every one has its own perception of happiness and its own ways and means of achieving it

Different things are responsible for giving happiness to different people. Some become happy by spending time with their loved ones.On the other hand , others are more comfortable with their work.Few people love pets.In this modern era outdoor activities like shopping, dinning out ,outings etc also bring happiness to a particular group of people.Materialistic people, on contrary, become happy with wealth
Reason of these views about happiness is my own understanding and views of people around me.let me give an example of a colleague of mine who used to feel very happy with her kids and she could sacrifice any thing to be with them.Another interesting example is of my elder sister whose happiness is centred on achieving excellence in her profession.
According to my conclusion this internal feeling, which is referred to as happiness by people, is immensely diverse and no one has got enough intellect and knowledge to explain it completely. But the point which should be focused is that our life should not be confined to achieving happiness for ourselves rather we must seek happiness for others as well.henceforth, this global village will become a centre of happiness .

As computers are being used more and more in education, there will be soon no role for teachers in the classroom.

There is no doubt that education and the learning process has changed since the introduction of computers: The search for information has become easier and amusing, and connectivity has expedited the data availability. Though experts systems have made computers more intelligent, they have not yet become a substitute of the human interaction in the learning process. In my opinion what can be expected is a change of the teachers’ role, but not their disappearance from the classroom.
Nobody can argue that the acquisition of knowledge is more fun and easier with computers. The mere activity of touching and exploring this device constitutes an enjoyable task for a child. This, accompanied by the relaxing attitude and software interactivity, usually contributes to a better grasping of new knowledge. At a higher educational level the availability of digital books, simulators and other academic materials provide the student with an ever accessible source of information, that otherwise would not be at hand.
But, besides the increasing complexity and behaviour of intelligent software, which is usually embedded in the academic digital material, the need for human interaction in the learning process will always be present, at least in the foreseeable future. There is the necessity for a human being to be able to determine what these specific needs of each individual are. The expertise of a teacher in how to explain and adapt complex concepts to different individuals can hardly be mimicked by a computer, no matter how sophisticated its software is.
As computers are becoming a common tool for teaching, teachers should be more aware of their role as guides in the acquisition of knowledge rather than transmitters of facts. They have to be open minded to the changes that are taking places, keep updated and serve as problem solvers in the learning process, thus allowing students to discover the fact for themselves.
To summarize, in my personal view, teachers play and will continue to play an important role in the classroom, especially at the primary level. No matter how complex computers become, there will be no replacement for the human interaction, but in the way haw this interaction takes place.
